It’s only "closely associated" in your mind, David. If you’re really interested in finding boogey-men lurking under the bed, take a look at the days of the week. Most are named after pagan gods. Guess that makes everyone with a DayTimer a pagan worshipper! Try reading Paul’s writings on meat that has been sacrificed to idols. It clearly refutes your "guilty by association" argument. -Cloy

I like CS Lewis’ take on this–that the pagan stories are forshadowings of universal truths which are realized in the Christian story. Thanks in part to a sicko that killed his own son with a poisoned pixie stick in 1974, the Churches have become the place to celebrate Halloween. A 100 years from now people will laugh when Halloween is called a pagan tradition.
You will pardon the observation, I hope, that the people celebrating Samhain won’t be among those laughing (except perhaps at the temporary secularization of the year-ending holiday) Paul

Yes, I have heard similar nonsensical and desperate rationalisations used to explain the fact that much of the story of Christ is lifted directly from pre-Christian pagan religions. An element of common sense has to be used here. If one is a fundamentalist Christian believer, and willing to suspend common sense in order to maintain the illusions of one’s belief system, then of course God has the power to implant a form of ‘precognition’, so that traces of the ‘true’ story of Jesus will have appeared before the event, and been worked into earlier mythology.
Dude, I’m a Christain. "Implanting" a form of "’precognition’" is the least of the powers I ascribe to God. But that’s not really the point. Where, for example, does the dying and rising God myth come from? Why is it in all those pagan religions in the first place? Why is the myth so powerful? Because it expresses an important spiritual truth. What is that truth? If you believe in the Resurrection, how should you say that is not the truth it points towards? The false prophets preaching Easter have also changed the gospel and the timing of important events. Contrary to what is being preached in their Churches, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John testified that the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ died the day of the preparation of the Jewish Passover and was resurrected three days later. It is like clockwork. Comes an established Christian festival, and comes also some poor deluded soul who thinks he has something new to tell us, who preaches how the festival was originally pagan in nature and is therefore diabolical and evil. It happens without fail on this group (ARC) at Easter, Christmas, Hallowe’en, and so on. And, as always, we are told nothing that we did not already know. Most Christians will freely acknowledge that many of their most significant festivals are drawn from the festivals of pre-Christian times. Most will accept and understand that, in order to establish the Church in Europe, existing festivals were adopted and modified by the Church to cushion the impact of the ‘new’ religion on long-set ways. The fundamental point here is, of course, that there is nothing significant about a date. What is of importance is who or what is in your mind at that time. Now, Easter rituals are largely pagan in origin, since they represent new life and new beginnings – this time of year was very important in pagan times, as the world began to return to life after being dormant through the winter. Indeed, this time of year is STILL important for that very reason. But now, of course, this time of year is, in western societies at least, inextricably associated with the rise of Jesus from the dead. Now, we can look at that in one of two ways. First, we could acknowledge that the resurrection myth itself is of pagan origin – which would of course cause problems for those arguing that Christianity should be kept free of pagan influences. To free it of THAT one would require Christianity to discard the basic story that made Jesus more than just a man. If it is accepted that Jesus’ resurrection is the same event as that of Osiris, or Persephone, or Freyja, and then paganism is declared meaningless, then Jesus’ resurrection is also meaningless. It is worth considering whether the resurrection story was actually part of the beliefs of the earliest Christians or not. The second option is to accept the pagan myth of the resurrection, apply it to Christ, and redirect attention to him and his story. That would, of course, mean that a date is just a date, and that what is important is what you do on that date, and what you are thinking about when you do it. For example, if you celebrate Christmas as the festival of the birth of Christ, then you are following a Christian tradition, regardless of the fact that Christmas was once Yule. If you, as a Christian, have a Christmas tree or a Yule log, it makes no difference, IF those things lead you to think about the birth of Christ. If that is the effect they have then they are Christian symbols, like it or not. So the pedantic harping such as David’s here, the bleating that appears without fail before every major Christian festival condemning those who celebrate it as misguided or corrupted, is absolutely without meaning. A festival is what you, the celebrant, make it. The festival is what YOU intend it to be, and it is about whatever YOU have in mind when you participate in it. It matters not whether it shares a date with some pagan or otherwise non-Christian event. There are, after all, only 365 days in a year, so it is not unlikely that some dates will be double- booked. Why hang yourselves up on this pernickety nit-picking? Credit your god with some intelligence. Celebrate your festival, and give thanks or praise to your god or gods. That is, ultimately, what matters to the religious – not whether someone before you has used the date or the rituals for something else. — Midwinter

Most Christians are unaware that Easter is closely associated to the spirit of Antichrist and with the abomination of congregations celebrating Ostara, Eostar, the Goddess of Fertility. With sadness I came to the realization that the religious leaders of the Jews were filled with the same spirit of Antichrist manifesting now through the false prophets of our time. The shedding of the innocent blood did not bother at all the Pharisees, their concern was not to be defiled in order to eat the Passover later at sunset. John 18:28: Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was EARLY; and THEY THEMSELVES WENT NOT into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; BUT THAT THEY MIGHT EAT THE PASSOVER. While reading these Scriptures I also realized how a great majority of the Jews of the time of Jesus were like the present believers of the false gospel who have no love of truth. The believers of the new Gospel of lies have chosen to follow false prophets and would like also to shed the innocent blood of true Christians who are condemning their abomination. At Passover many of the Jewish believers had a choice, but they preferred to set free a Criminal and shed the blood of the holy one of Israel, the Lamb of God. John 18: 39 – 40: But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one AT THE PASSOVER: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber. In the original Gospel it is reported that the day after the Crucifixion was an "High Day". This detail when closely analyzed, is proving the authenticity, the veracity and accuracy of this event reported in the scriptures. Even though it is clearly established in the old Testament why this day was a special Sabbath, even today the great majority of Christians are unaware that according to the law of Moses the day after the Preparation of the Passover was an holy convocation and no manner of work was done by the Jewish people. John 19:14: And it was the PREPARATION OF THE PASSOVER, and about the sixthhour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! John 19:31: The Jews therefore, because it was the PREPARATION, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (FOR THAT SABBATH DAY WAS AN HIGH DAY,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Mark 15: 42: And now when the EVEN was come, because it was the PREPARATION, that is, THE DAY BEFORE THE SABBATH, Luke 23: 54: And that day was the PREPARATION, and the SABBATH drew on. After reading all these true words of the original Gospel, it is undeniably proven that Jesus of Nazareth died the day of the Preparation of Passover. Yet even today the followers marked by the spirit of Antichrist not only will continue to believe a lie but they will also want to persecute true followers of Jesus Christ for proclaiming the truth. If the anointing manifesting in these Sanctuaries of perdition was truly from God, why would this spirit be teaching falsehood in flagrant contradiction with the truth written in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? John 19: 42: There laid they Jesus therefore because of the JEWS’ PREPARATION DAY; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand. Matt. 27: 62: Now the NEXT DAY, THAT FOLLOWED THE DAY OF THE PREPARATION, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, After being exposed to so many years of false teachings, multitudes of so called Christian believers could not even notice that the scriptures clearly reported the Lord Jesus Christ was killed the day of the Preparation of the Jews Passover and the next day was an "High Day". From the time of the Exodus when the Children of Israel left Egypt and until today, the Preparation of the Jewish Passover is always followed by a special Sabbath. As I have already explained, by the Law of Moses, it was required of the children of Israel to have an Holy convocation and to do no manner of work the day after the Preparation of the Passover: Lev. 23: 5 – 7: In the FOURTEENTH DAY OF THE FIRST MONTH at EVEN is the LORD’S PASSOVER. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. In the first day ye shall have an HOLY CONVOCATION: YE SHALL DO NO SERVILE WORK THEREIN. Numbers 28: 16-18: And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the PASSOVER of the LORD. And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast:seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten. In the first day shall be an HOLY CONVOCATION; YE SHALL DO NO MANNER OF SERVILE WORK THEREIN Exodus 12: 16: And in the first day there shall be an HOLY CONVOCATION, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; NO MANNER OF WORK SHALL BE DONE IN THEM, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. The Apostle John clearly understood that the Lord Jesus Christ, who was killed exactly the day of the Preparation of the Passover, was truly the Lamb of God. Saint John was greatly amazed by the fulfillment of the scriptures, witnessing that as for the Passover Lamb none of the bones of Jesus Christ the Messiah was broken. John19:33 – 36: But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, THEY BRAKE NOT HIS LEGS: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A BONE OF HIM SHALL NOT BE BROKEN. Numbers 9:12 They shall leave none of it unto the morning, NOR BREAK ANY BONE OF IT: according to all the ordinances of the PASSOVER they shall keep it. May these prophetic words of John the Baptist who cried in the wilderness, reveal to your mind the truthfulness of the testimony of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John: "Behold the LAMB OF GOD, which taketh away the sin of the world." The spirits of Deception, lying wonders and witchcraft do not want you to know the truth, they are looking forward to always keep you captive of doctrines conceived in absolute darkness. Today is given to you the opportunity to believe in the truth of the original Gospel and forsake the abomination of Apostate Churches. You can continue to believe a lie, or you can chose to reject the false teachings of pastors anointed by spirits of devils. Today you can chose to remain among those who are appointed unto the wrath of the great day of God almighty, or you can embrace the truth and become a child of light. Exodus 12: 1 – 7: And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: itshall be the first month of the year to you. Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a LAMB, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of THE CONGREGATION OF ISRAEL SHALL KILL IT in the EVENING. And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. Exodus 12: 14: And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/7192/page4.html
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Was Jesus crucified on a Friday? Some Pharisees and teachers of the law said to Jesus, "Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from you." He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth …" Matt.12:39. If Jesus was laid in the grave at the sunset on the Friday and him risen at the sunrise on the Sunday, it is only one day and two nights, or 36 hours. But Jesus said three days and three nights, it is 72 hours. If we count 72 hours back from the sunrise on the Sunday, then we come to the sunrise on the Thursday. This is neither right, for in Matt. 27:57-60 and in Mark. 15:42 we see that the body of Jesus was laid in the grave at the sunset. We must still count 12 hours back, and we come to Wednesday sunset. Could it have possibly been on a Wednesday, just before sunset that Jesus was crucified? Yet, according to Mark. 15:42, it was the day before the Sabbath. Could the Thursday have been a Sabbath? Yes, Thursday was a Sabbath! This is the very fact that has confused people. A fact that has completely been overlooked because Christians have lost sight of the meaning of the sacred feast days and what they really typified. This Sabbath holds the key to the whole mystery! We can read in John 19:31 that the Sabbath was a High day. This, the annual Sabbath, they always celebrated on the 15th day of the Jewish month of Abib (Nisan), irrespective of which day of the week this occurred. It had nothing to do with the creation Sabbath which is a weekly Sabbath. It could be two Sabbath days on the same week. The Passover day they celebrated the 14th Abib, and next day was a Sabbath. You can read this in Exodus
