Story of Ruth

Question:

Greetings. I am a devout Roman Catholic and a composer.  I had the idea of collaborating with a writer and writing a musical based on the story of Ruth. Has anyone seen the FILM "The Story of Ruth"?  It’s really quite wonderful, although to my dismay about 60% of the film is ADDED story bits to the actual smaller Bible story.  The book of Ruth begins with Ruth being a widow of Mahlon, but in the film, the first half of the film deals with Ruth’s conversion to Judiasm.  Mahlon is this strong, humble, godly man who teaches Ruth about justice, the good treatment of slaves, and the fallacies of worshipping big rocks. I was wondering if there is any other material that the film makers used other than the book of Ruth.  Does it say anywhere in Scripture (or perhaps a historical document or aphocryphal work) that Ruth was a former pagan?  I’d like not to run into possible copyright problems using the FILM as a source.  I am an inexperienced composer in the world of musical theater. This is one of many ideas I have for a musical.   Please e-mail me with suggestions. Peace of Christ, Marc
