Hypocrisy Lives at Bob Jones U

Question:

: That is not the only theory that Christians hold.  They also hold the : rather dangerous theory that mankind might just be good enough to be worth : saving. Bullshit. Christians destroy, they prevent society’s advancement, they hold god’s over humanity. One cannot truly love their fellow man when they hold a space pixie in higher regard. Christianity will destroy mankind unless making destroys it first.

Depends on what you hold to be mankind, I suppose.  If mankind is required to be a greedy, slothfull bunch of rich people controling the world, then yes, Christianity will destroy mankind. And, BTW, you need to take a closer, unbiased look at Galileo.  Your teachers have been lying to you. : At least I don’t have to ignore information to support my lifestyle. Ha! I don’t even see why I would need to respond to such a pathetic retort with such a invalid foundation. Christians ignore scientific proof constantly, as well as common sense and basic laws of reason. There is no reason to hold a violent fairy tale in higher esteem than observed information.

And your version of Scientific proof ignores 2000 years worth of empirical data. So much for your open mindedness. Ted http://www.teleport.com/~seebert Click here for your official 1998 IDIC Oregon Voter’s Guide: http://www.teleport.com/~seebert/alter.html

Response:

Actually, it seems to me science can’t prove anything.  All it can provide is a tentative conclusion, based on the data available today.  Tomorrow there may be new data which completely changes what science "knows".

Nice statement, so far.  Not only that, but you have to deal with the possiblility that science is a construct — it is what certain influential (predominantly white males) believe to be true.

But this one’s a hoot. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen anyone attempting to claim that the entire scientific method is a white male conspiracy. LOL! Why should I accept your "belief system" which says the only truth is that which science can "prove" (or to use your undefined term, hard evidence).   How is your evidence more "hard" than mine?

Just the fact that you’re accepting the terminology means you’ve accepted the essentials of the "construct" of science. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t even need to resort to such an argument. — Michael Morad-McCoy All views expressed are my own and do not represent the views of any organization that I’m aware of. : For one, science has also been proven right throughout history. Religion : hasn’t, despite being proven wrong to at least the same extent as science. : What’s your definition of "science", anyway?    BJU is following Jesus as they see his teachings.  They simply don’t share your interpretation of scripture.  That isn’t hypocrasy. Jesus also said that he didn’t come to change a jot ot tittle in the law. That Law, Jewish Law called for stoning of homos, nd for modesty in womens, and, some argue, places black people in a definately inferior class – on account of Ham’s having seen his father naked.  And, like your own Christian vision, BJU certainly speaks out against harlotry and homosexuality. So, what’s your beef?

I also speak out against discrimination

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –    I don’t see any hypocracy at all. BJU is upholding its corporate mission, and its Christian beliefs. No one is required to tolerate blacks or homosexuals on their private property. BJU is not a public institution, and not a public accommodation – at least it isn’t so far. Part of the mission of BJU is to provide an environment where christian values are upheld. While BJU is arguable a facist organization, that misinterprets the bible to suit their own political agenda, that is their right. There are enough people who are willing to support BJU that they can generally afford to be that way. That BJU doesn’t accept federal or government funds for its school, and that it doesn’t agree to terms of various accrediting organizations with respect to including queers, miscegenists, and other undesireable elements is a credit to its single-minded focus on its religious mission.

You don’t see the hypocricy of an institution that claims to follow the teachings of Jesus and also discriminates against others because of their race and sexual preference?   As with prostitutes and tax collectors, Jesus did not discriminate or turn his back on these people.  He spoke against what these people were doing.

Greenville, S.C. Bob Jones University, the fundamentalist Christian school that lost its tax-exempt status in 1970 for racial discrimination, is threatening to have gay alumni and certain other graduates arrested for trespassing if they set foot on campus. And there is  little that opponents can do about it.  Bob Jones is a private institution that is largely self-sufficient and shuns accreditation. "The constitution simply doesn’t apply to the private sector," said Eldon Wedlock, a constitutional law professor at the University of South Carolina. Bob Jones spokesman Jonathan Pait said the policy applies only to graduates, not visitors to the fenced-in 200 -acre campus, and also covers cult members, unrepentant criminals or other alumni who have strayed from the school’s teachings. "We can’t tell our alumni what they can and can’t believe," Pait said.  "But we can say, ‘You’ve made your decisions.  Please do not return.’ " The school backed down slightly Thursday, saying its outcast graduates can visit Bob Jones’ world-renowned museum of religious art so that the gallery does not lose its tax-exempt status. Wayne Mouritzen, a 60-year-old retired minister and Bob Jones graduate, got a don’t-come-back letter because school officials discovered he is gay. The school relented somewhat after Mouritzen brought up the museum’s tax-exempt status and the school’s desire to get $28,000.00 in local aid from the Greenville County Council. Pait said an unwelcome alumni who returned to campus would be asked to leave before being arrested by school police.  He said he did not know of anyone who had been confronted or arrested. The school’s ban on interracial dating or marriage prompted the Internal Revenue Service to revoke its tax-exempt status in 1970, a decision upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. If you see the HYPOCRISY in this as I do, and want to let the Bob Jones University know who you feel, please send your email of displeasure to:
