Hi Daniel Where have you been? Did you see the movie Constantine? I thought it was pretty good. penguin

Response:

Penguin, I didn’t see the movie Constantine. But I did see the promo for Constantine. It does seem like an interesting movie. My understanding is that Emperor Constantine made Christianity the official state religion at a time when Christians were receiving harsh treatment from pagan elements. For that, Emperor Constantine is to be commended. As a Roman Catholic, I can appreciate the benefits of free worship.
The Roman Catholic religion is true, but the White Cause has stained it to the point of near irrepair. Is it mystery or have they become accustomed to raping and breaking rules? "Just war," I say, and don’t listen to the South American bishops on that one. Use your instincts, not always your mind. Instincts can be intelligent and arguments can be evil to you or to God, even when they seem intelligent enough.

Response:

This is art: Secret Orders.

Response:

The Roman Catholic religion can be romantic and that can have an effect of a social or psychological nature, even when it seems to lack susbtance. Helium headpiss might be physical, but it might also have energy or spiritual aspects. Perhaps it is in some way connected to the Holy Spirit, like the string Atropos would snip in Stephen King’s book "Insomnia". Jesus Christ descended into hell, but then arose into heaven, perhaps never to return. His halo was sometimes depicted as round. 3rd Christ might have gone straight to heaven and returned roughly a 1000 years later. 2nd Christ’s nature is more uncertain, but it might be best to avoid conceiving him in image form. My ontology is a blessing and it is that Mexicans CAN capsize ugly, when they must, whether it be to preserve their families, their religion, or their way of life. The blessing could be a bit prophetic and the ghosts of the air might pull them to it. It’s a reality that might have been stolen by historical elements, but known by God.

Response:

Actually, the "sad little god" is the one that YM here believes in: the one that dictates a book to bring his followers to him, but can’t tell the stories without contradicting himself, such as the book of John versus the synoptic gospels, or the contradictory Resurrection morning accounts. The same sad little god that tells his prophet, Ezekiel, that he’s sending King Nebs to destroy the previously unbeaten island city of Tyre, and then fails to do so. Sadly, YM worships this sad little god and thinks you should too, and when you point these problems in the text out to him, he runs away and denies that it’s true, when even a reasonable reading of the text can show you that he’s wrong. Of course, YM can’t even type the newsgroups he’s crossposting to without a typo, putting in a "," after "religion" in "alt.religion.christian.roman-catholic" instead of the "." character and then not even bothering to find it out when it’s pointed out to him repeatedly.

I’ll have to try it sometime. Probably in a restaurant since I don’t want incinerate my kitchen. The two times I’ve had it were at a pre-Thanksgiving pot luck lunch at work. Apparently this guy’s grandfather did it in the garage and had this whole pully thing set up attached to the ceiling to lower the turkey into the hot oil. A friend of my husband who lives in Texas also highly recommends the deep fried turkey. He’s part of a huge family and they have three turkeys: one deep fried, one smoked and one roasted.
About seven or eight years ago, I found out that I was drinking too much, so I had to cut it out. Now I limit myself to an occasional wine or beer with a meal. Once a year or so, I may have a mixed drink, but that’s about the extent of it. Getting old sucks.
- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Murder of Pre Born Baby (Fetus) deleted I’ve got a challenge for you. Try thinking of something else besides abortion. Are you up to it? Why not give it a try? You mean try to think of something that is not in existence? Just when it looks like you can’t lower your IQ any farther, you come up with something like this… I fail to see any relation between IQ and the above remark. The individual with the lower IQ is the one who can’t understand that a baby is not the same thing as a 3 month old fetus. You mean somehow the dna was altered in the interim from 3 months to birth? I’d doubt that. You mean somehow the fetus is a different person once it is born? It’s not a person *until* it’s born. See Amendment XIV for particulars of citizenship: human, alive, and born. Per Amendment XIV a Fetus Is human, alive, and will be born (and is therefore it is a person).

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States…" "born", not "will be born".

I see today’s right wing religious fundamentalists as stone cold pharisaical hypocrites. Religious rhetoric from them is like venom for the body of society. The last 50 years have seen a revival of pharisee types and red sheep to follow. That is what is driving people away from religion. Fundies: Trying to be white on the outside but full of death and ignorance inside. But their translucence reveals the corpse within. Thats what I see when I see people like Dobson or Robertson and their army of liberty haters. The scriptures say HATE THIS LIFE and HATE OUR FLESH (your very nature!) and they surely do…and everyone else’s life, too.

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – <snip Tell that to the 70% of the world’s population who are not Christian. <snip I have to differ with you on that fact. There are approximately 2 billion Christians, and despite what people may think, that number is increasing due to missions in China, Haiti, Brazil and other countries. (My pastor went on a mission trip to Brazil and over 5,000 people "walked the aisle" to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior) Anyway, the percentage would be roughly 66%, not 70%. Now, you might say, "Well, close enough…" but 4% of 6 billion is 24 million, which is roughly one twelfth of the population of our entire country. (i.e. Quite a few people) ;-) Also, a great many of the ones who do fall in the 66% are not non-believers by choice, they are non-believers because they’ve never heard the Gospel. It negates the concept that all of those people are non-believers by choice. Jonathan

AMEN to that, Jonathan. And if those individuals who choose to reject the Lord don’t change their minds before it is too late, they will have no one to blame but themselves. They cannot honestly say they were never warned, or that

Response:

Religious participation in the Western world is on the decline, no way to escape that fact.

still remains that no matter how few the Christians, they will STILL BE HEARD. There is nothing you lying atheists can do about it, either. God knows His own, and He WILL see they are heard. If you don’t want to believe me, do your own research.

I’ve done lots of research into different religious beliefs, denominations and cults…… and I alsop did a lot of research on route. Perhaps your pastor should quit converting the Catholics

the romanists are the ones who imagine ‘they’ will convert us to their false teaching religion. Some DO defect to romanism, yes, but the true Christians wil not. and worry more abut the home front. Europe’s numbers have been in a slide for years,

And you atheists have been, and continue to be on the downhill slide in more ways than one. Every second that you remain an atheist lowers you into the pit faster and faster. But go ahead; laugh at my comment, tell me I’m a mental case believing in a myth——- I don’t really care, because you’ll only be fooling yourself. In England church attendance is around the 10% mark. Hopefully in fifty years people of the world won’t feel the need to live a myth.

Church attendance doesn’t make or break Christianity. There are many Christians who choos NOT to attend any particular church for one reason or another, and it still does not mean they are any less Christian or that they ‘no longer believe’. The church building is not what counts, but the BELIEF AND FAITH IS.

Response:

Pious drivel

Why do you think so? Please be a little more verbose.

Response:

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – 4 Observations Those poor lost souls who believe that God’s Word, the Bible, is not truth should consider the following four observations: 1. Prophecy(for telling of future events)- read your newspapers today 2. Faithfulness & integrity- God’s chosen nation/people the Jews 3. Sin- see your own human pride 4. Salvation- watch a sinner become a saint through Gods’ regeneration Yes, God’s Word is not only true and current to the human condition but is completly trustworthy. Great powers of the past have tried to destroy His Word but instead they were destroyed and the Bible remains and will remain until the end.

AMEN to that. VERY true. "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." The Lord Jesus Christ (Matt 5:18)

Yup. But trying to get these atheists to recognize that truth is almost like pulling hens’ teeth…..

Response:

4 Observations Those poor lost souls who believe that God’s Word, the Bible, is not truth should consider the following four observations: Mat 19:18 "…Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false

witness…." So, Elmer– are you saying, then, that IKH is lying in saying that the Bible is truthful?

Response:

Great powrs of the past have not tried to destroy his word. Christianity of the past killed and / or tortured everyone who would not accept its ludicrous claims.

That was not Christianity, though. The cult responsible, namely the Roman Catholic cult, imprisoned, tortured and murdered anyone who refused to accept its lies and false teachings. In those days, the God-accursed thing DID wield much power, but not GODLY power. It claimed to be doing what it did ‘in the name of God’, but nothing could have been further from the truth. bold-faced, arrogant romanist lie. Jesus would have nothing whatsoever to do with a religion as bloodthirsty, greedy, arrogant, lying, and perverted in more ways than one…. as the romanist denomination. Let those romanists who are still infesting these other groups claim I am ‘hatefilled’ all they like—— what i’m saying is the truth.

Response:

And you should consider these four words(OK,5) Delusion-Religious belief

only according to you. The TRUTH IS, you are the ones in delusion. Satan has fooled you into thinking God doesn’t ‘exist’. So admit it, atheist—— who do you serve??? Jos 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. False Hope-What you have for your life

only according to you. A CHRISTIAN doesn’t have false hope. What a Christian HAS is the promise of eternal life with the Savior. Just because you refuse to accept the Lord, that does not make Christians fools, living in an imaginary sense of security, by ANY means. Bigotry-What you have shown here

yo claim IKH is bigoted? He IS posting to Christian groups, of his belief in the Lord. YOU, OTOH, are an atheist posting to Christian groups in your feeble attempts to create dissension in any way you can. WHO is the real bigot then? Exo 8:23 And I will put a division between my people and thy people: tomorrow shall this sign be. Joh 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him. Hate-What I have for you

A certain EARMARK of the atheist. Just remember though, that for every other personj YOU hate, you hate yourself that much also. Argue over it if you insist, but I will not haggle over it with you. You hate others so much, it is blatantly obvious that you also hate yourself.

Response:

Hopefully in fifty years people of the world won’t feel the need to live a myth. Amen, brother!

You obviously don’t even know the real meaning of AMEN, because God’s no myth to real Christians. AMEN means ‘Let it be so" … so what are you chanting YOUR feeble ‘amen, brother’ to ? You jest, of course, but your mocking will not go unpunished. Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Response:

If you bothered to read Paul’s letters, he calls himself "the chief of sinners."

he got that right!

Response:

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – x-no-archive: yes copyright 2004 John Weatherly all rights reserved (keep it in the group) 4 Observations Those poor lost souls who believe that God’s Word, the Bible, is not truth should consider the following four observations: 1. Prophecy(for telling of future events)- read your newspapers today Ah, yes. The venerable "art" of postdiction. Show me one correct Biblical "prophecy" that isn’t the result of creative interpretation after the fact. Just one. EASILY. You obviously haven’t read Daniel. Nor have you read the MULTITUDE of prophesies concerning Messiah, like Psalm 22, 23, and 24.

Umm, Liar John, you obviously have never heard of the Jewish midrashic tradition – the retelling of old myths with a new slant to explain their liturgical practices. Your so-called *prophecies* are merely Christian use of that midrash tradition to build a case for their god-man, Jesus. So yes, your prophecies really *are* interpretations of O.T. myth. Shalom, Bill – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – You have not found the passages that tell where He’d be born, (Bethlehem Ephrata), or the passage that said He’d be betrayed for silver coins (why not gold? why not copper? why not brass?) The prophet said silver. 2. Faithfulness & integrity- God’s chosen nation/people the Jews So your perfect god plays favorites? Yes, He blesses the righteous and doesn’t bless the unrighteous. However, He does give the unrighteous the very basics, like food, water, and sunlight. 3. Sin- see your own human pride And there are none so full of pride as those who believe they are the pinnacle of their god’s creation. I don’t believe any Christian believes we are anything "higher" than sinners saved by grace. We DO believe that MANKIND is God’s highest creation. If you bothered to read Paul’s letters, he calls himself "the chief of sinners." Those who are the worst critics of the Bible are those who have never bothered to read it. The Bible: the one book the critics never bother to read before they critique it. jw God bless! j w

Response:

Ah, yes. The venerable "art" of postdiction. Show me one correct Biblical "prophecy" that isn’t the result of creative interpretation after the fact. Just one.

There are numerous verses in the Bible which discuss prophecies. Tons in the OLD TESTAMENT, but I am taking these from the NEW: Mat 15:7-9 7 Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Act 2:17-33 17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19 And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. 22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 1Co 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. These are only several– there are numerous passages concerning prophecies in the Bible…… 2. Faithfulness & integrity- God’s chosen nation/people the Jews So your perfect god plays favorites?

I don’t believe he said any such thing. Why read extra words in his post that he never said? Act 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 3. Sin- see your own human pride And there are none so full of pride as those who believe they are the pinnacle of their god’s creation.

I don’t believe IKH said THAT, either. Again, you are trying to put wording into his post that he never said, or even implied. To be overly-pridefilled IS a sin. To have pride in one’s appearance, no— to have so much pride though, that you refuse to tell the truth to cover your own hide, or you are needy, and refuse to ask for help, or accept it when offered, is another thing. 4. Salvation- watch a sinner become a saint through Gods’ regeneration I’ve seen people turn their lives around many times. I even know a few who give the credit to some god or other. But I’ve never seen a shred of actual proof that any supernatural agency was involved.

The reason WHY is obvious, John. You are an atheist, and you are spiritually blinded, because you reject the Lord. I can only hope and pray you ACCEPT HIM before it’s too late. Joh 12:40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. Rom 11:7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. 2Co 3:14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ. 2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 1Jo 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. Yes, God’s Word is not only true and current to the human condition but is completly trustworthy. Great powers of the past have tried to destroy His Word but instead they were destroyed and the Bible remains and will remain until the end. Tell that to the 70% of the world’s population who are not Christian.

Your problem is, you think that by your falsely insisting that ‘God doesn’t exist’… and by referring to Him as ‘a god’ — you imagine you will win out and manage to confuse more people. The TRUTH IS, you will fail in your attempt. Whether 70% or 95% of the inhabitants are unchristian, those 5% remaining will STILL be heard, as God will see to that. Your arrogance and insistence that God doesn’t exist will be yopur own downfall, not ours. "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." The Lord Jesus Christ (Matt 5:18) Well, this just verifies what I’ve thought all along, IDon’tKnowShit.

You really don’t need to be so hard on yourself, but no , you DON’T know.. You really aren’t the observant type. <G Actually, he is more observant than some I’ve seen in here. — then WHY are you here posting in a Christian group?

Nowhere is the Holocaust or the founding of the State of Israel foretold. The opening of Japan also is never foretold. Any alleged prophesies extending this far forward are either fail the "post hoc ergo propter hoc" test or are apply to a very limited set of parochial circumstances to the point of irrelevancy. 2.
The estimated current population of the world is 6.5 billion. That means the 70% is close enough when you consider that we are dealing with estimates, not exact data. Religious participation in the Western world is on the decline, no way to escape that fact. If you don’t want to believe me, do your own research. Those in the US that are classified as atheists or no-religion numbered 14 million in 1990. In 2001 that number was 29 million. Perhaps your pastor should quit converting the Catholics and worry more abut the home front. Europe’s numbers have been in a slide for years, In England church attendance is around the 10% mark. Hopefully in fifty years people of the world won’t feel the need to live a myth.

The Bible is not the WORD OF GOD. I cannot understand this Fundamentalist position. Read the Gospel of John. The Word is the Living Word.. i.e. GOD. The Bible is a group of books written about the word, but incapable of accurately representing it. The LIVING WORD is greater than any Grammer. there were many books written about Jesus (called Joshua Ben Adam in Hewbrew).. The ones that were included in the official bible where those chosen by the Church to agree with Church Tradition. The Bible is a reflection of Church Tradition. If you say the ‘Bible will remian until the end’ you are making a plea for infallibitlity of Church Tradition… you are not making a plea to The Word of God.. who the bible at best only witnesses of in a church sanctioned manner. — Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
Jews who believe in Jesus as Christ/Messiah of Israel but unlike Paul hold to the Old Covenant of their fathers with God. These are the believers James was talking about with Paul in Acts 21:18. They circumcised their boys on the 8th day according to Moses custom They shared the synagogue service with the Jews who did not believe in Jesus. They did not have the Lord supper They did not think that Jesus was the Son of God in physical sense. They boasted about the superiority of the Old Convenant over the New. They hated Paul because his doctrine against the Law/Torah of Moses…. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Val

PAUL’S ARRIVAL AT JERUSALEM When we arrived at Jerusalem, the brothers received us warmly. The next day Paul and the rest of us went to see James, and all elders were present. Paul greeted them and reported in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul:" You see brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed in Jesus as the Messiah/Christ, and all of them are zealous for the Law/Torah. They have been informed that you teach all the JEWS who live among the Gentiles to TURN AWAY from MOSES, telling them not to circumcise their children or live according to our customs. What shall we do? They will certainly hear that you have come, so do what we tell you. There are four men with us who have made a vow. Take these men, join in their purification rites and pay their expenses, so that they can have heads shaved. Then everybody will know there is no truth in these reports about you.But that you yourself are living in obedience to the Law. As for the Gentile believers, we have written them our decision that they should abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality." The Next day Paul took the men and purified hmself along with them. Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the day of purification would end and the offering would be made would be made for each of them.
<shudder I’m getting the picture of a small defenseles boy who is getting some parts cut off while his head is held under water. I was under the impression that a lot of (most?) american males have been both circumcised and baptised. Of course neither action makes sense, technically or otherwise.
Huh? Islam claims to trace itself back to Adam! But just for grins and giggles, let’s see what else you have. -If anyone can not trace the Orthodoxy Catholic back to Paul, he is a clueles idiot and a dogmatic.

Many of the key elements of Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant thought come from Paul. -Given the above, If anyone says the firts Christians at Jerusalem were all baptized, and partook to the Lord supper he is an obscurantist;you can not be baptized and be circumcised at the same time, it makes no sense technically speaking.

Why not? Even as an American in the 21st century, I am both circumcised and I partake of the Lord’s Supper. -If anyone thinks the POPE is useful, let him be cursed

The Pope is very useful. Pope JPII has been a loud and clear voice for human life, freedom, and dignity. I love the man – and I am a Protestant. -If ANYONE Thinks that Islam has no biblical foundation, let him be ignored.

Islam has no foundation in the teachings of the Bible. The Bible clearly says that Christ died on the cross. Islam denies this, so there is really nothing more to say. -If anyone thinks the Bible only belongs to the Christians and by Christians he means the Pauline version, he knows nothing.

Wrong. Paul’s Epistles were considered as Gospel by the Apostles. ****If anyone can help defeat fundanmentalism, integrism, obcurantism and any other isms or the missionaries out there, let him join us to restore the integrity of HISTORY

Because you can’t tell a historical statement from a Theological one. You also don’t really understand the TORAH. And you don’t know what Christianity would look like without Paul. It seems these things are too complex for you, so you settle for the simplest. Yet it is every simple. As far as History is concerned, says the Qur’an Jesus died, but for the Qur’an Jesus’ death doesn’t negate the OLD COVENANT as Paul implied. The jewish Christians just thought the same. YOU SURE DID NOT READ THE QUR’AN. YOU ARE A CLUELESS IDIOT

We need no Pope for that. A bishop would do the same job just fine in his own juridiction. Even some head of states do better jobs.
