Question:
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – The recent attacks on American Society and non-Catholics by the Catholic Church has proven to many others and me that the Catholic Church is in fact a Cult. It’s sad to see that religious bigotry still exists, and that it’s still based on the ignorance of half-wits. The "Church" has nearly all of the characteristics of a cult- http://www.csj.org/infoserv_cult101/checklis.htm 1. The Pope Buzz. Questioning authority is practically a requirement in the RCC. … ? In the good old days, questioning the Church could get one invited to one’s own barbequing. It is true that in the past the Church did run the inquisition and by modern standards it was horrible. . Abu Graib didn’t have anything like this. at least that we’ve heard about so far. That being said, the Church run inquisition was not interested in people questioning the Church’s position but rather in those who were heretics; those who help positions contrary to the defined doctrines and dogmas of the Church. Even then by far, most of the people who were tried by the Inquisition were not put to death, especially if they were willing to accept correction. . So 340k souls chose death over correction? Yeah, right. The Inquisition that most people really think of when we think about excesses is the Spanish Inquisition which was run by the Spanish Throne and mostly targeted Conversos (Jews who had been forced to convert by mobs who continued to practice Judiasm). All this being said, I am not trying to excuse the Inquisition, by modern standards there is no defense of it; merely explaining that mere questioning was not enough to bring the attention of the inquisition. . Your contention that people chose being burned alive instead of "correction" is undoubtedly an excuse of the first order. The bottom-line is that prior to 1830, God’s Holy Church had a long history of burning books and burning people. cheers, Bill Prior to the Spanish Inquisition (ok..now I am going to hear monty python all morning) most people chose correction over death.
