America is for Americans !!!!!!

Question:

Fine…then as you are a resident of Singapore–BUTT OUT!!!! Paul

Response:

Actually, did you know that Utah gets more money on a per capita basis than PR?  Some stupid senator or congressman from Utah took a cheap shot at PR awhile back, so I did some digging.  Utah is a bigger welfare state than PR.  Wrote a nice letter to the editor and saw it published. + The citizens of Utah pay federal income taxes. + They receive some of that money back in subsidies, welfare, education, etc. + Do the citizens of puerto Rico PAY federal income tax? + I don’t think so.

Puerto Rico, for being a colony and not a state, and for its citizens being nationals and not full American citizens, are not suppossed to pay federal income tax but at the time, can’t have Congressmen or to vote for the President of US.  But, there are Puerto Ricans who are soldiers of the Army and Navy, who work in military bases or work for federal agencies, like VA, FBI, IRS, and who work for the US Coast Guard.  Those people, even living in Puerto Rico, has to pay federal income tax because their income comes from the federal government.  They also has to pay local income tax as anyone else living in PR. And about that congressman from Utah, yes, I had heard about what he said, it’s a big lie.  Yes, we receive many money in welfare but the federal government receives more in taxes and in the benefit of not having to pay for the land they use for military practices, and from the taxes from the income of multinationals like pharmaceuticals like Pfizer and big shopping stores like K-Mart and JC Penney.  We’re talking about lots of millions of $ here. If you ask me, colonialism is very lucrative. Saudade

PR is the poorest.  The next would be the great state of Mississipi.

Snip Just for the record, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth, not a colony. Additionally, Puerto Ricans ARE U.S. CITIZENS, not nationals.  As soon as they come to the mainland, they may register to vote in that state, and then they may vote for president, etc.  They also have to start paying income tax, but they most definitely are citizens.  Residents of some other U.S. territories (Guam and American Samoa, among others I believe) are U.S. nationals, but not U.S. citizens.

Then why don’t you use that same response when the Supreme Court calls such mixing of religon and government unconstitutional?

Probably for the simple reason that the Supreme Court has NOT called the mixing of religion and government "unconstitutional", Demosthenes! What HAS been declared unconstitutional is the government ESTABLISHING a particular religion, but I suspect the distinction

When that ignorance called "patriotism" affects other AMERICANS, because of their culture, ethnic history or color, it should be attacked! I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants.

and most of them looked different, and most of them talked different, and most of the were (unfairly) treated by ignorant assholes who used the mask of "patriotism" to cover up sheer ignorance and arrogance! However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. Asshole – that IS our national identity! As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

The people in this nation speek a varietyof tongues. While Englishmay be the unofficial, official language – it is NOT the only languahge spoken here! (BTW … my grandfather never learned English – but he was one of many immingrants who worked in the sttel mills that not only built this nations buildings, but built this nations war materials for WW I and WWII. Why do you ignorantly attack people like him as though you, and only the people YOU select, are "true Americans? Your insanity is dangerous .. and you, IMHO, are the farthest thing from a "true American"! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity.

We have multi-cultural for years and years.  Where have you been?  Did you know that  government documents have been published in other languages, all the way back to the Articles of Confederation, which were published in German and French?  Did you know that during our history of immigration, bilingual education was often provided in areas with large numbers of speakers of a foreign language?  If fact, since education was centrally controlled, communities decided what language to use in their local schools. Perhaps youhaven’t heard the anecdote of Lawrence Welk not learning/needing to  speak English until he left his North Dakota hamlet?  A good book to read is James Crawford’s "Bilingualism in America: A Forgotten Legacy." What national identity?  Have minorities been made tofeel a part of that national identity anytime before the last century?  Blacks certainly didn’t keep themselves separated as slaves on purpose.  Did Japanese-Americans think they fit "the national identity" during WWII? Tell me, would this culture you speak of include lynching black men for talking  to white women?  For thinking the only good Indian is a dead Indian? As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

Who says people aren’t?  Looking at Latinos only, by the second and third generations, they speak more English than Spanish, they intermarry, and, according to the New America Foundation, 60% of Latinos become citizens.  Talk to someone who teaches English as a second language.  Classes are full, they turn people away. Ah, yes, I can hear it coming,  "my grandparents never had to….." Well, WAY back then, 60% of jobs didn’t require a high school diploma. Um, society has changed a BIT since your grandparents were around. "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

In God We Trust is ceremonial deism, having very little value or import to people and their real spiritual lives. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don’t like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don’t care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. You just contradicted yourself, making a mockery of our Constitution. That’s the whole point of the first amendment, that people can speak  their minds, even if it is unpopular.  To say we let people express tehmselves and then say, fine you’re done expressing yourself, so LEAVE is ridiculous. If you agree — pass this along; if you don’t agree — I don’t want to hear about it.

Closed minded?  I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else besides the USA, and I’m more thankful than you might think that my great-grandparents made the trek from Mexico, but I have not closed my eyes to the truth of our country.  We have a mixed past but an endless future.  We have struggled for over 200 years to be both free and equal, denying that degrades our country.  Patriotism is much more than waving a flag.

Our real enemy here is drugs and violence related to drugs and sexism, not terrorism.  That’s another thing.

Hey, you should just follow your earlier claim, and accept druggie people as they are!  Same goes for sexist pigs, Saudade – just accept those people as they are!  That’s what you SAID you Puerto Ricans do, isn’t it?? So welcome to the world, Moebush.  You’ll have to deal with it. Saudade

Hey, "celebrate diversity" and "accept people as they are", right Saudade? So CELEBRATE and ACCEPT those violent druggies and those rude sexists! (gosh, but I sure hope not ALL Puerto Ricans think like YOU do, Saudade!)

Response:

Very well, I hope the moment you come to Puerto Rico you better know how to speak Spanish, because we speak Spanish and not English. You may feel offended because you hear people talking in any language but English, but here in Puerto Rico, there are minorities who speak English, French (and Haitian creole) and even Chinese, and we don’t care.  We accept people as they are.  And yes, there are Muslims here too and Jews, but they has done nothing to us and we leave at peace. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion, and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. If you agree — pass this along; if you don’t agree — I don’t want to hear about it. AMEN
