Question:
It’s the numerical representation of his name. 6 is the representation of both man and evil 7 God and Perfection 8 Jesus and ressurection. The understanding that 888 represents Jesus comes from the numerical values the letters in the Greek translation for his name.

The numerologically experts, I believe, consider number 8 as a number that stands for "a new beginning", which is exactly what Jesus Christ is, 1 Corinthians 15:45. Sincerely in Christ, I would have thought numerology itself would have been considered divination. In which case, surely it is hardly appropriate to assess Jesus in terms of numerological values? — Midwinter

Well its certainly considered pseudoscience and I’m surprised so many people find it worth mentioning but then it is in the Bible and many here in this group say to take the Bible literally (alt.talk.creationism). So wouldn’t that mean they would have to take numerology as a truth. Lane ‘Science has proof without any certainty. Creationists have certainty without any proof.’ (Ashley Montague) Lane

Using numbers as a representation of a name is not numerology. Using those numbers to predict your future or as a guide to life is numerology. The reason that the numbers 6,7 & 8 represent the thing that they do was worked out using the creation and easter stories Man was created on the sixth day, therefore his number is 6 God saw that the world was perfect on the Sabbath (seventh day), therefore 7 represents perfection Jesus rose from the dead on the day after the sabbath (sabbath=seventh day, the next day is the first day- 7+1=8), so 8 represents the ressurection.

Using Jesus’ actual name, Yshua, the value is 386. Yod = 10 Shin = 300 Vav = 6 `Ayin = 70

Interesting. And what’s the significance? Daniel — "When St. Markie says "Catholic Church," he’s not talking about the RCC. He’s talking about his own imaginary construct of what he wishes the RCC were, and that construct — his bastion of "True Catholicism" (TM) — is, of course, blameless." maf1029 in arcr-c on 13 July 2002

One thing that I thought why 888 became the number of Jesus aside from using the Ionic Cipher Greek Numeral System is that the number 8 looks like a vertical infinity symbol. God is infinite, no beginning and no end, the alpha and the omega, the first and the last. So can we use the infinity symbol for God? Since 888 is the number of Jesus, He must be infinite. He must be God. Actually, He is. Now, why three 8s? Is it because there are three persons in the Godhead? One God, the same God, in three different persons (the Holy Trinity)? All of them, infinite. The Father is infinite, the Son Jesus is infinite, and the Holy Spirit is infinite. God bless us and protect us from harm always. Who cares? What a foolish statement. Why does he need to be numbered? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – In other words, numerology. Strange that such practices are okay for those who follow Jesus, yet are ’sin’ for those of us who do not… — Midwinter

Dear Brent and my Fellowmen, The name of Jesus in Greek is spelled as iota, eta, sigma, omicron, upsilon, sigma. I really hate to point this out, but Jesus was not Greek. He was Hebrew, and his name was not "Jesus".
I agree with you that Jesus was not Greek but a Hebrew. His name in Greek is IHSOUS as spelled above. Using the Greek numeral system, if we substitute the values to each letter of the name of Jesus in Greek and add them up, the total is 888. Oooo. You can add. Now the physical proof: Would you believe that this is manifested in post office boxes? Post office box 888 is right in the middle of a cross, that is, four boxes to the right, four to the left, four below, and three above box 888. 888. Number of Jesus. Cross. Strange? God has subtle ways of giving proofs. And that would be the Post Office where? My Post Office doesn’t have that many boxes.
The post office boxes are located at the Campbelltown City Post Office Building, some 50 km southwest of Metropolitan Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. If you know anyone from Sydney, ask him/her to visit the place to verify what I share with you. OTOH, I have placed some photos in my website to show this configuration. Could be another Richard Schiller in the making.
I do not know who this Richard Schiller is. However, what I do is share my experiences with you. It is up to you if you would believe it or not. Let us use our intellect to discern the truth. Dear Stephanie and my Fellowmen, I’m not so sure, isn’t the number of the beast 666 and is that based on numerology. I’m not an expert on the Bible so if someone could help me out here it would be appreciated.
The number of the beast is 666 as stated in Rev. 13:18, to wit (Good News Bible): "This calls for wisdom. Whoever is intelligent can work out the meaning of the number of the beast, because the number stands for a man’s name. Its number is 666." So the beast is a human being and 666 stands for his name. The Holy Spirit told us who this beast is but He did not tell us how his name adds up to 666. I did not ask. No one asked. I was just contended to know who he is. I should have asked how it was derived. Later, I may reveal what the Holy Spirit said. Suffice it to say, He just said that this person is the "halimaw", the Filipino word for beast.
