Pay attention, Adam, I am tired of your garbage, and I am tired of the lies and distortions that are being spread about the Church by those under the pope of Rome. There is no reasoning with people who spread those lies and
distortions either. Then TAKE the HINT, Evan! If we are so unreasonable, then LEAVE! Why waste your time here, debating with those whom you, in your own inimitible way, call liars and madmen! If you spend one further moment here attempting to debate with those whom you style as lying madmen, then you must be mad yourself! Do you understand that? You ARE mad! Why you remind me of James Carville! [snip] Please do us a favor, stop your lies. There are too many. No, the lies all come from Roman Catholic sources. distortions. Well, go and play in your own sandbox and leave us adults alone. [snip] Another lie on your part. I suggest that you look at this thread and see who brought up the Orthodox Catholic Church. It wasn’t me. When the lies started about Christ’s Church I came in to defend the Church.
Well, this thread is called Catholic and Protestant. What are you doing here? I started a thread on a Catholic and Protestant issue, and you jumped in right smack-dab in the middle of it, without even a by-your leave! I must have missed that. I don’t always read US News and World Report. Who are we talking about here? Arrogance was on the part of the pope. But I notice that you did not answer the question. Don’t know?
What are you talking about? Popes just don’t say willy nilly, "I’m going to raise so and so to the honors of the altar." There is a process. You have to have someone plead the case, you have to have someone as the part of "Devil’s advocate." There has to be documenation on the life of the person in question. Now, while I’ve met some Catholics who are very nice people. I still don’t hold to their church beliefs. I’m a Baptist and see nothing wrong or shameful about that. If Evan doesn’t go along with your beliefs, he, like anyone else, has the right to express that. *****Those sound like very idle threats to me. Do oyou really think he will back off just because he’s posted something you happen to object to? If there was no cursing or other obscenity, (which there wasn’t that I could see) — then he’s done nothing wrong. You might not like what he has to say, but you can’t stop him posting. You obviously won’t like what I have to say either, but that won’t stop me from posting. Resorting to threats in this case serves no purpose. A good suggestion might be for you to stop crossposting to so many other newsgroups. III. All synods or councils, since the Apostles’ times, whether general or particular, may err: and many have erred. Therefore they are not to be made the rule of faith, or practice; but to be used as a help in both.
Given these two ideas, WHO HAS AUTHORITY TO DETERIME WHAT IS IN THE WORD OF GOD? In fact, given Part III, the best we can possibly hope for in the Bible is a fallible collection of infallible books, since it was church councils that decided what was to be in the Bible. The Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter XXV I. The catholic or universal church, which is invisible, consists of the whole number of the elect, that have been, are, or shall be gathered into one, under Christ the Head thereof; and is the spouse, the body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all. II. The visible church, which is also catholic or universal under the gospel (no confined to one nation, as before under the law), consists of all those throughout the world that profess the true religion; and of their children: and is the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ, the house and family of God, out of which there is no ordinary possibility of salvation. III. Unto this catholic visible church Christ hath given the ministry, oracles, and ordinances of God, for the gathering and perfecting of the saints, in this life, to the end of the world: and doth, by his own presence and Spirit, according to his promise, make them effectual thereunto. IV. This catholic church hath been sometimes more, sometimes less visible. And particular churches, which are members thereof, are more or less pure, according as the doctrine of the gospel is taught and embraced, ordinances administered, and public worship performed more or less purely in them. V. The purest churches under heaven are subject both to mixture and error; and some have so degenerated, as to become no churches of Christ, but synagogues of Satan. nevertheless, there shall be always a church on earth, to worship God according to his will. VI. There is no other head of the church but the Lord Jesus Christ. Nor can the pope of Rome, in any sense, be head thereof. Chapter XXXI II. It belongeth to synods and councils, ministerially to determine controversies of faith, and cases of conscience; to set down rules and directions for the better ordering of public worship of God, and government of his church; to receive complaints in cases of maladministration, and authoritatively to determine the sam: which decrees and determinations, IF CONSONANT TO THE WORD OF GOD, are to be received with reverence and submission; not only for their agreement with the Word, but also for the power whereby they are made, as being an ordinance of God appointed thereunto in his Word. III. All synods or councils, since the Apostles’ times, whether general or particular, may err: and many have erred. Therefore they are not to be made the rule of faith, or practice; but to be used as a help in both.
