More basics – the declaration

Question:

Now I am sure that many will have fun tearing something that simple apart.

Well George we never ‘tore’ your statements apart. You are claiming to have sources of aceint knowledge yet are totally unwilling to state them. If you choose to call yourself a Warlock go right ahaed I won’t stop you. Some of us just wanted to point out to you what the term means and why it’s a negative label for oneself. Hey if you want to call yourself the ‘grand high wizard’ I won’t stop you. It’s when you make these claims of anceint knowledge about the ‘true meaning of things before tthey were distorted by the ages’ that I will step in and ask you what your sources are. Maybe you’re even right I don’t know unless I examine your source of information. Yet when we point out our sources of information, you accuse us of ‘tearing you apart’. Thats not a mature response. So if you want to discuss your statements then why not discuss them rather then hiding behind ‘ancient’ knowledge. If you don’t want to discuss your points here why are you raising them in a public forum maybe you should stick to talking ‘eye to eye’. -Bill

: : George, why do you persist in calling yourself a Warlock. You cannot be : : declared Warlock and yet be "Protector of the Circle" or "defender of the : : weak". : Your pardon, Marjorie, but this statement is analoguous to the statement : that ‘Pagans’ and cannot call themselves ‘healers’ or ‘decent people’ and : ‘pagans’ or ‘Witches’ also due to traditional definitions of the words. No, I’m certainly not saying that a Pagan cannot be or call themselves healers or decent people. And I would assume that most people calling themselves Pagan would certainly wish to protect the integrity of another’s religious practice as well as defending the weak. Sorry if I did not make myself clear on that. However, from a Wiccan standpoint your cannot be these things and be a declared Warlock. It’s like being an *active* Roman Catholic priest and be married. Ain’t going to happen, no matter how much you click your heels together and wish. Sneak out and do it, and according to Church dogma, you have automatically taken yourself out of the running spiritually. George can indeed call himself the Great and Marvelous French Poodle as far as I’m concerned. I just find it very hard to believe that anyone would willingly take on a title as offensive as Warlock when they *should* know the meaning of it by now! Since I have seen no supporting evidence as to a meaning *other* than what has been shown in the several threads on this subject, I have to make one of several conclusions: 1. Perhaps George does not have the scholastic aptitude to understand what we have been saying about the word, Warlock. 2. Perhaps George, like Crowley who called himself "The Great Beast", wants to scandalize the Pagan community with his use of the term. 3. Perhaps George *has* done something terrible in his life and his unconcious is trying to expiate and admit his guilt by driving him into obsession regarding this term. As it stands, I’m tired of this thread. I like discussing concepts along with the next person, but I draw the line at beating my head against the wall with these people who keep insisting that Warlock *must* mean something it does not. I certainly haven’t found *any* research that supports this idea. Does the word "traitor" have another meaning in the English language? I think not. Warlock sounds mysterious and sexy, very dark and foreboding, but in reality it’s not. Words were developed because people needed it to express a concept. Therefore, there was a need for a word to represent "oath-breaker" or one who would turn in their coven brothers and sisters for torture and death. I’m very into reclaiming words (I’m a Witch and proud of it!), but do these men really want to "reclaim" that one? Marjorie HPs, Our Lady of the Sycamores

I came to share. I found many who were kind but I also found many who simply want to impose their beliefs, their personal agendas. That is now what it is all about. Its respect for all people and their beliefs and most important respect for the spirits that surround us. I found the following statements to be so very true; "Truth of words is not always found in how many accept them, but sometimes in how many reject them." "The written word is weak, the spoken word true because we can look into the eyes of the person." That second statement is most powerfull and that is why I look at at posting such as this one to be taken with a grain of salt. I have always been told that the first thing you have to find in seeking the ways is yourself. Once you find yourself you can make the journey. Once you find yourself it is expressed in your declaration of being. Mine made long ago was; I am man, I am Warlock. Servant of the Great Spirits that surround. Protector of the Circle. Healer, defender of the weak. A maker of magic. It was made based on the teachings of the basics, not on the distortions of the ages. Something that simple is to needed to make the magic. Now I am sure that many will have fun tearing something that simple apart. George

Why focus in the negative responses, George? The beauty of the usenet is that (at least with MT-Newswatcher) you can choose only those topics you want and blow off the flames and spam. If I were to respond or even get mad at every reply to one of my posts that I don’t like, I’d be angry all day long. B*B Jorinx
