Question:
I have many of the same argument with the Schwaermer as you do and I find your method of attack amusing.. Since so many Protestants seem bound and determined to stay in this newsgroup with some of the silliest questions I have ever seen (and even sillier answers)…please feel free to answer these questions: 1. In the early Church prior to the second century (after the death of the last Apostle)…what would have been the Canon of scripture???
You are assuming that the Schwaermer know what the word canon means. From my knowledge of Church History, I would expect that it would be either some version of the Hebrew canon or the LXX plus a varying collection of St. Paul’s epistles, one or more of the Gospels and a varying collection of the Pastoral epistles. The canon would differ from place to place. 2. If you were living in 682 A.D. and you were a follower of Christ…please provide me with some historical data to point to that would indicate you belonged to a Church that only followed the Bible (remember..the Guttenburg printing press wouldn’t have been invented yet and ALL scripture was copied by Monks)
Me thinks that you are giving the Schwaermer a real problem here. 3. Do Protestants, in their quest for truth, side more with the early Christian Church…or with the Jewish leaders at the time of Jesus (or shortly after they had him crucified).
Are you are referring to the "Protestant" choice of O T canon? Iif so you are handing the Schwaermer another real problem. Actually it is like shooting fish in a barrel. Far too many of the Schwaermer have no idea where the Bible came from. Many of them think that it dropped out of heaven, in KJV English, Red Letter Edition, and soft bound in black leather just right for waving in the air. 4. If being a "Bible Christian" is the only way to Salvation…can you please point me in the direction of even one of the over 25,000 "Bible Christian" denominations that are 100% in agreement. (Hint…why are they still divided?)
Perhaps it is because they have no real idea what they are arguing about. 5. Name the Protestant Groups today who are actually Protestants. (Hint: almost all the 25,000 + protestants are actually Protesting Protestants because the Protestant Reformation at BEST made only 4 protestant groups…and that’s pushing it).
Considering that the term "Protestant" actually only applies to those who signed the "Protestatio" at the Diet of Speier in 1529, (all Lutherans BTW) and considering that the "Protestatio" was a political, not theological document, I would question if any church is "Protestant" although they might be considered so by others if they protest what the other is doing to them. (The protest at the Diet of Speier was about an attempt by the Emperor Charles V and the Roman Catholic majority at the Diet to abolish the Lutheran territorial churches by means of a political power play and the threat of force.) Your 4 groups are? Thank you for your time…Please respond to the group…private e-mail to me will be automatically deleted. For those Catholics on here…. United in His Mystical Body, Rob For you Protestants….a final thought…. There are only 2 kinds of people in this world Catholics and Potential Catholics…see you in heaven!
And if you spell "Catholic" "catholic" it cuts way down on the number of potentials.
