– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -So before one decides that they want to "join the Catholic church", they better make sure they understand, believe, and accept all the theology that such a decision entails. This means that one must accept the Christian doctrines of the Trinity, the deity of Christ, that all of us are sinners, that Christ’s sacrifice is the only way to repair our relationship with God and to obtain salvation, that salvation is by faith and not by works, that Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead three days later, but one must also accept the following Catholic-specific doctrines: – one must (honestly) believe and accept that the bread and the wine of the Eucharist turn into the body and blood of Christ; – one must believe and accept the authority of the current Pope, the bishop of Rome, and unquestionably accept any pronouncement he makes "ex cathedra"; – one must (honestly) believe and accept that Mary was "immacuately conceived", and lived a completely sinless life; – one must (honestly) believe and accept that Mary physically rose to heaven (physically "assumed"), even though there are no less than *two* gravesites for her body; – one must (honestly) believe and accept that there are different "classes" of sins ("mortal" and "venial"), contrary to Matt. 5:21-28, which means that you can be a sinner, yet still act "holier-than-thou" towards anyone whose sins are "worse" than yours.
+ And you were doing soooo good, Jeff….. + You almost made it to the end….without screwing up. + But, since I’m Catholic, I forgive you and your sins that are worse than mine…

Can someone give me info on websites where I can learn more about the fundamentals of the Catholic Church and what the steps are to convert?
The best way to convert is to just walk away from the Church and never go back. That’s what most converts are doing, especially since the pedophilia scandals hit the newspapers. However if you’re one of those rare people who want to convert in the other direction, from non-Catholic to Catholic, you must follow these steps: 1. Put aside the promptings of your conscience, the voice of God within you, and follow Catholic teachings instead. 2. Put aside your reason and follow Catholic teachings no matter how unreasonable they seem. 3. Allow the Catholic theologians and priests to interfere with your direct relationship with God, no matter what those priests do and say. 4. Ignore the fact that most priests are pedophiles. 5. Try to mentally accept Catholic teachings no matter what your heart is saying. 6. Ignore the fact that the history of the Catholic church is the most bloodthirsty and violent of any movment in history. Charl

Why would you want to know how to "convert" to a faith you don’t even know the fundamentals of?! What is your reason for wanting to "convert"? I know some people want to convert because their fiance(e) is Catholic. Unfortunately, some people act as if the Roman Catholic Church is nothing more than some sort of "social club", but unfortunately, it’s not. To want to convert to "Catholicism" specifically, rather than simply to "Christianity" (of which Catholicism is a part) seems to imply that one already has specific opinions about those doctrines that separate Catholicism from the rest of Christianity, namely transubstantiation, the papacy, and Mariology (although how one can have specific opinions about these yet still not know how to join the RCC, I don’t understand). So before one decides that they want to "join the Catholic church", they better make sure they understand, believe, and accept all the theology that such a decision entails. If you can honestly accept and believe all of the above, then you should probably contact a catholic priest in your neighbourhood parish. But more importantly, you need to continue reading and studying God’s word in the Bible. — Jeff Shirton jshirton at cogeco dot ca <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Aurelius Augustine was a Calvinist. Go to www.Catholic.com. This is the Catholic Answers homepage. Click on library, and there are lots of easy to read tracts on Catholic beliefs. Click on Radio and you can listen to their radio programs on line, which I have found to be very informative. Go to Christusrex.com, and click on the Catechism for a very detailed explanation of Catholic beliefs. Doug
