Question:
"brian" wrote Well they were fake orphans who were kidnapped and forced to live in other countries. Yes the British government bares much of the blame,
+ Strange…. + I didn’t see that in earlier posts. + All I see is how the church is always to blame for this horrible crime. but the "Church" was the one who hides the records to help right a wrong.
+ It is so easy to blame the church. + After all, they are the final agency where the kids ended up. + How about those who made the decisions, loaded the kids on boats and trains ans buses and delivered them to the orphanages. + Oooooh, no records….. + So let’s blame the church. + After all, they have no records either. + And…. we can blame them!!! If the Church is in the soul winning business and immortal souls mean something to your church. You would think they would be interested in helping. They are not, so one asks a simple question, how much is one soul worth? By the actions of many in your church the answer would appear not very much.
+ If you are so interested, YOU go to the orphanage and start digging in the basement files. It is YOU who deems it is so darned important. + And if the records aren’t there, we can blame YOU for hiding them. + Yeah, that’s the ticket. A more personal question Mr. Barker why do you hate Jesus Christ so much?
+ Why do you think I do? + My purpose here isn’t to whitewash the church and its history. + My purpose is to remind people like you that the RCC is made up of many wonderful and a few not-so-wonderful people around the world. Most folks are good people. Most RCC folks want to do what is best for God, for family, for country. + I get tired of the Catholic Bashers who look for any excuse to blame the church for anything that they feel is unfair. + Stoopid people find blame wherever they can. + Just because I don’t stand side by side with you in attempting to bash the Catholic Church – this certainly doesn’t mean I hate Jesus. + why do you feel that this is the only way to love Jesus?
Response:
"Alan Ferris" wrote more lies. + Alan, if you want to provide info on Bindoon, then provide the whole story. The Church certainly isn’t blameless in all its dealings, but they weren’t the organizer of perpetrator of this debacle. They were left holding the bag – full of unwanted, troubled, and corrupt children.
Response:
+ Here are excerpts from the story of Bindoon……. The report calls on the Howard government to conduct its own inquiry into the abuses which resulted from Britain’s post war child migration scheme to Australia. The scheme involved several thousand young Britons… Some as young as five and falsely labelled as orphans… Who were brought to Australia between 1947 and 1967. The report describes this scheme as having a history of "cruelty, lies and deceit". In the meantime our government is waiting for its British counterpart to respond to the report before deciding how to act…if at all…it’s the sort of softly softly approach that continues to frustrate survivors of the scheme. In Western Australia, for example, it has repeatedly been alleged that the Christian Brothers preyed on child migrants over the decades. Allegations of systematic rape of children surfaced in a class action brought against the order which resulted in an out of court settlement of $5.1 million in 1996. It was a less than spectacular victory for the complainants … Those alleging the worst abuse received only about $25,000 each. Whilst the Christian Brothers also made an apology, it was not enough for many of those who say their lives have been shattered by what took place in orphanages like the infamous Bindoon in Western Australia. Jim Fairley was one of between seven- and 10,000 young Britons transported to Australia after World War II – some without their parents knowledge. Imagine yourself. You step onto an Australian wharf for the first time aged six or seven. You’re lonely in a faraway land. Then there’s the gruelling manual work, the beatings even sexual assault. You cry out but no-one can hear you. Then even as you grow older and the truth comes out, there’s the final indignity… the reluctance of governments and those Christian organisations concerned to shoulder their share of the responsibility for what happened to you. John McKechnie Director Public Prosecutions, WA ‘93 We will not prosecute if there are no reasonable prospects of conviction and we are likely to reach that view in respect of allegations of events which occurred many years ago and which are entirely uncorroborated. Qld Inquiry Spokesperson The inquiry will not be a witch hunt. It will not be distracted by politics. Recommendation: paragraph 117: Conference The Committee recommended that the British Government should convene a conference involving all interested parties to discuss the problems faced by former child migrants. The British Government considers the main priority for time and funds to be to improve the support of those former child migrants who most need it. The Australian Government agrees that several of the proposals need further discussions between various interested parties. A conference is not necessarily the most effective or efficient way to progress these issues. The Australian Government sees direct contact between the relevant organisations responsible for each issue as the most effective way to ensure cooperative and considered outcomes, such as through linking various database indexes. Recommendation: paragraph 118: Apology The Committee believes that an apology would be in order but that the best acknowledgment of the suffering that has been experienced would be urgent action on the recommendations of the report. The British Government response points out that while the policies were misguided they were conducted within the relevant laws of Britain and the receiving countries at the time. They offer sincere regrets to those who see themselves as scarred. The British agree that the prevailing mood is to move forward positively and concentrate on improving support for former child migrants. The Australian Government agrees fully with the Committee and the British Government that the best approach is to move forward and focus efforts on improving the welfare of former child migrants. The Australian Government has already focused some efforts in this area. The Australian Government also recognises that views about child separation have changed significantly over the past decades and regrets the suffering that some have experienced as a result of past practices. With the public and official understanding of the problems faced by former child migrants being raised in Britain and elsewhere, all organisations and others involved can work together to produce positive outcomes for former child migrants.

This is true it does make no sense. http://www.parliament.the-stationery-office.co.uk/pa/cm199798/cmselec… lth/755/75507.htm http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/stories/s17579.htm http://www.minister.immi.gov.au/general/child2.htm http://www.thelinkup.com/integrity2.html It is a complicated and multi faceted part of history, in the grand scheme of things maybe not a big part of history. But for the souls involved it changed if not destroyed their history. My point is, for a church that expresses an interest in the salvation of souls as its primary goal on Earth, why is it they do not strive to help these souls? Even if they are not totally responsible it is a place where there is need, church resources to easily meet those needs yet there is little concern. There seems to be much more concern about alter rails and did the priest do the sacraments correctly. There is generated multi threads on this and other Catholic news groups about what type of architecture of a church or did Mary really appear to six kids in Yugoslavia. I find this the most interesting aspect of these threads and this discussion. One really wonders if a soul is worth very much. One just looks at Kos in Texas, what he did was terrible, but should not condemn and entire religion or all priests. But the bishops response to it was to protect the church from litigation not to help the souls that were traumatized by this priests actions. Then when a huge settlement was granted to those injured and abused the churches way of paying off was to sell off parish property in poor communities. The response to the situation in San Jose where I live was quite the same, a priest took off with many thousands of dollars and left a school and parishes in financial trouble. There was no help from the Church universal, there was blank stares. I have no problem with the church being held to the same standards of any other political or secular organization. But the church holds itself to a much higher standard with its decrees. It says it is the kingdom of God, a City on a Hill, the One True Church, the Spokesmen for God almighty, the Fullness of the faith and so on. It says it is better and fuller than any other ecclesiastical community, it makes claims about itself that few other organizations do. The church I attend does not say this about itself. It makes no claims as being the only way, the one true anything or the only fullness of the truth. It is not unreasonable to hold the church to those expectations and ask it to just be even with other such organizations and be responsive to the needs of the people it says it represents. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – — Bruce "Soli Deo gloria"

They were not orphans. However the church felt it better to tell them that they were. So they would not miss there parents. Sick or what! They also abused the children, even by the standards of those days. They used them as slave labour, some died from it. Thursday, 14 June, 2001, 12:24 GMT 13:24 UK Bishop on trial makes history Victims’ families say the bishop should have told police A French bishop has gone on trial charged with concealing information that a Roman Catholic priest was sexually abusing young boys. Monsignor Pierre Pican, 66, made history at the court in the northern town of Caen as the first bishop in modern French history to appear in the dock. He is accused of keeping quiet about the acts of Father Rene Bissey, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison last October for raping one boy and abusing 10 others in the 1980s and 1990s. Monsignor Pican, was placed under formal investigation in January 2000 after families of the victims complained that he knew what Bissey was doing and should have alerted police. Confession As the bishop of Bayeux-Lisieux in the Calvados region in northern France, he was in charge of the diocese where Bissey was a priest. What is at issue here is the question of whether a bishop should denounce his priest Thierry Massis, defence lawyer He denied knowledge of the priest’s actions when called to testify at Bissey’s trial last October, refusing to say more on the grounds that to do so would compromise his own case. But at his trial Bissey said he had given detailed accounts to his confessors in the church. Monsignor Pican’s lawyer, Thierry Massis, is expected to argue that confessions have to be regarded as secrets. "What is at issue here is the question of whether a bishop should denounce his priest," Mr Massis has said. Paedophile scandals The plaintiffs’ lawyers point out that, under law, a priest is required to alert authorities if he becomes aware of a crime against a minor. Mr Pican’s trial, which could set a legal precedent, comes at a time when the Roman Catholic Chur, of the 25,000 priests nationwide, there are currently 19 under investigation for rape or sexual assault on minors. In addition, 30 other priests have been convicted in recent years on the same charges, and 11 of them are serving prison sentences. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/europe/newsid_1388000/1388152.stm
