Why do you do it.

Question:

We are christians because we took a hard look at ourselves and, finally admitting to the internal spiritual darkness the Word is warning us about, believed in Jesus. Inadvertently attempting to mix light with darkness as you did when you read the bible simply results in the typical conceptual "coughing, sputtering and backfiring" that your mind experienced.

I don’t really know how you cam to think this after what I have said.  I don’t think that I have been coughing and sputtering and backfiring.  I have just read something that I thought was not only a record of an event in history but a spiritual jorney and I found neither. Given that Jesus had to deliberately open the minds of his own apostles to the Scriptures in Luke 24:45, it’s no wonder that you had trouble especially given any doubt on your part.

The doubt is because of the contraditions. Only through the power of Jesus and his Holy Spirit can you or anyone else even begin to comprehend the true meaning of the Word.

Jesus was only a man and a man who I don’t believe to be the son of God.  In fact, it would seem, that it is my lack of belief in God that is the hing pin in the whole thing really.  If a man doesn’t believe in God then the whole argument falls over doesn’t it. I have been surfing the web for a while now and always seem to have a quick look at the religion newgroups.  I have tried to understand why people look towards a church and find peace but I have only found confusion.

This means you have not found the answers to your questions. As I and many others are throughly NOT confused, we will be happy to explain things to you. :) I have read the bible from cover to cover and find that there are a lot of inconsistencies and contradictions.

If you just admitted that you are confused by the bible, could it not be that you simply misunderstood what the bible has to say? Open your heart and your mind, I promise I will answer any of your bible questions. What part is incinsistent? About what are you confused? -opr —                                           Style: Chen shi Xinjia Taijiquan. orichman at hotmail.com                       Visit my homepage for NetWhack http://www.pathcom.com/~simex/opr/index.html   info (goal: a C++ NetHack).

I know this sounds harsh, but, well – it’s true.  The Bible – The Word of God – is offensive to those who are perishing  It’s even repellent – because in order to get to the good news of salvation, one first has to go through the Bad News – that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.   But, somehow, Jesus draws us to him, and then enters us, gives us- forgivness of sins, and a new life.  Trades a nasty old heart for a shiny new one.   The Bible claims to offer hope and reasons for living to a lost and dying world.  I know the God I serve – and I know his Word is true. regards, Matt H.
