Question:
I have seen them. Look at the horsepower. I think 1 hp is the minimum. mine pushes 2 cubic feet per minute (cfm) at 90 psi. Smaller compressors don’t push as much air and therefore take longer to fill a tire. Mine is the size of a couple of coffee cans and weighs little more than the 12 volt models which take hours to fill one tire. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – In Costco today and saw a 120 volt portable compressor, about the size of a 3 lb coffee can, pressure gauge up to 120 psi, $40.00. Also included a separate 12 v blower for air mattresses/etc. Forget 12 volt. They can’t handle the load. I bought a115 volt, 1 hp devilbiss tankless at Sams club for about $80. It fills the 19.5 tires on my International truck with no problem. I have seen some 120v air compressors last year when in Tex. I do not want a 12v compressor again . I would appreciate any suggestions on where to get one that has 150 Ib psi and is small and portable for the RV. I have checked out Walmart here in Ont. and they do not carry a 120v pump here in Can.? Also the cost you paid for yours would helpful . Thanks for any info on the above subject . The Fox. S. Ont. we are going to an RV show soon. Can someone please give me their opinion, no flames please, comparing a Landyacht w/ no tip outs and a Class C with tipouts?
No flames intended, but I wouldn’t go near either one. When we were shopping for a new MH, most Class C MHs had barely enough carrying capacity for your "stuff" when they had no slide outs, and I wouldn’t have bought a Landyacht at half the price we paid for our Itasca Suncruiser. Go to www.rv.org and invest a little money learning how to avoid WASTING a LOT of money. Study the RVCG library until you understand what JD Gallant is looking for when he tours a factory, and WHY he is looking for it. Understand wheel base to length ratio. Understand the importance of BALANCE. Understand the importance of little things like spash rails and drawer tracks. Learn how a drawer should be put together. Learn how a basement compartment should be supported, and why. Learn about the varrying kinds of roof material, how to spot proper and IMPROPER installation of roof material. Learn about the differences in interior walls between various manufacturers, and why you want one the dog can’t run through. Learn to spot a unit which has been properly calked, and one which was sort of calked. Learn where Ford, GM, and Workhorse REQUIRE leveling jacks to be installed, and then take note of where the manufacturer actually PUTS them. (Fleetwood and others have been putting jacks in front of the engine fastened to a cross brace instead of the frame.) We saw an American Tradition by Fleetwood the other day which had a 3 point Jack system on it. Can you imagine buying a $600,000. MH and finding out later that the manufacturer was so cheap that they saved $200 at the cost to you of a teetering front end while parked and leveled? Study at the court of public opinion while keeping in mind that there will naturally be more complaints about a ompany which builds more units. Lon VanOstran, who belonged to RVCG for 3 years while we studied and shopped for our MH, AND GOT IT RIGHT.

Ditto, I bought mine at Sears, too. It is a 2 HP tankless that fills truck tires without breaking a sweat. If you look at past postings on groups.google.com, you’ll find a link. Steve

Wal Mart has just what you’re looking for It’s a Campbell Hausfield with a samall tank and sells for about 100.00 US. I saw one in Thinder Bay Ontario Wal Mart for somewhat higher Canadian. Since most of Canada doesn’t have WalMarts, you might consider orderin on line from Wal Mart, if that option is available there.

<<.. While quite expensive, this is a great excuse to buy a Hadley air horn setup- http://www.hadley-products.com/hadley.html though I do *not* see the belt drive compressor that mine use listed. My setup (Ambassador) maintains 160 psi, and other than a belt and valve/filter kit, has worked great for 15 years. I don’t know about the direct drive compressor that is listed now, but the belt drive compressor is very high quality- lots of roller bearings, powerful motor, etc. Plus- air horns are *really* nice to have, sometimes. — Chris Bryant Bryant RV Services- http://www.bryantrv.com

As the subject line says, the request was for a 120V (presumably AC) compressor, which is what we responded about. I didn’t think it was that tough to figure out. As a matter of fact I just bought one from Sears. They have two light tankless models in 120 V: a 3.3 Amp (I think 3/4 hp) for $50, which takes you to 120 psi, and a 2 hp model for $100. Both are of a manageable size. The smaller is only slightly larger than a DC model. It put 80 psi in my 4 new Michelins with no problem. The DC "heavy duty" model I just threw away burned up trying to do 2 of them. Ask to look at Model 15054. Bob
Response:
Bob, could one of this size do other air-pressure work like… cleaning the driveway, roof, rv ? Seems like a good deal for someone like myself. I’ve wanted one but can’t really justify to myself a big one. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – As a matter of fact I just bought one from Sears. LOL. I think I’ve mentioned here before that I had a set of Hadleys on my VW camper (mounted out of sight under the front end, beside the spare tire). Boy, what fun that was! I took them off the VW before I got rid of it — I may put them on my Class B if I can find a place to mount them hidden… GB in NC

I just got it, and haven’t tried. It comes with adaptors for air mattresses, bicycles, basketballs, etc. But nothing for blowing off the driveway. Maybe I’ll give it a shot tomorrow and see. But I think it’s designed for pressure more than volume. I find most service station air compressors these days are set to cut off at about 60 psi, which is 20 short for me when I’m hauling. Sorry I missed saying I did { not } want anymore 12 v air compressors, only 120 v that produce 150 psi . Also thanks for the info on the above subject , I now have to see if the stores Sears, Wal Mart , Home depot can get or may carry the 120v compressors as some suggested have them . I bought a Campbell at Walmart about 2 years ago, for something like $100.00. I originally got it to use on the roof for moss. It’s electric, portable, light weight, and if I recall correctly 1800 psi, which is enough to take paint off stuff. I use it all the time and love it, just plug it in, connect a garden hose and go.

i can’t intelligently discuss the differences between a class A LandYacht vs. an unnamed class C. there are too many variables. as for slide-outs…are you leasing the vehicle for a short time or looking to buy a unit? my opinion is that, in general, you’ll probably be happier with slide-outs than without. more room = more comfort. but slide-outs also mean more weight and depending on the chassis the weight of the slides may chew up most or all of your payload capacity. you may have the same weight problems with a class c that has no slides. some of those units are violate the gvwr of the chassis when they are built. but a lot depends on the MH and the manufacturing. we have a class A with two slide-outs and have had 0 problems. others on this list may have had opposite experiences. you really need to provide more information. rich, n9dko
